We started thinking about this cruise in the summer of 2011 when we were on an enjoyable Alaska cruise with my mother, a wonderful lady who has since passed away.
The week we returned home from the west coast, I checked in to the Roll Call for the cruise from Rome to Rio. I would highly recommend to anyone taking any cruise to use the Cruise Critic Tools including the Boards. We met other "connected" passengers online to hear introductions, concerns, offers of small groups tours, questions, and suggestions.
Here we are, almost a month prior to departure. We have added a trip deviation at both ends of the cruise so that we will be able to spend more time before embarkation in Civitavecchia near Rome, Italy and departure in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The trip deviation added to the cost of our trip but we calculated that we have saved elsewhere by making our own hotel bookings, signing up for small group tours, and arranging for our Brazil visas on our own.
